The gamut of sounds on this record is unbelievable. On one song you'll hear some mournful clarinet howling, while another builds on momentum with cinematic-reminiscent strings yet on another track, you might find yourself singing the delightful chorus melody of a blues-driven track. The uniting factor in all of these songs is the undeniable love of music this guy has, and his confidence in exploring a dizzying amount of styles, to find the one that best suits the song at hand. He and his band made the way to Tucson, Arizona to spend what I can only assume must have been a fantastic two weeks in the infamous analog-lovin Wavelab Studios with Craig Schumacher (think producing ace behind Calexico, Neko Case, Iron & Wine and others). The end result is one busy, gorgeous, enchanting (enthralling!) record that bridges these musical styles with an accessibility rarely found in such sprawling beauts.
