Power pop is a good starting point for this record. And any band counting Paul Bellows in their line up is bound to be pop-driven. But there's more to this album: there are some metal curves, some hyper-literate tangents, some dreamy sounding bridges but you certainly get the sense that here is a group of friends who all come together to RAWK. The history of the band is one that entails members coming, and members going, surely members loving through it all but the end result, this new full length (which happens to double up as a debut) is the perfect snapshot of a band in two different spots of their history together, making a record of where they've been. I'm excited that they'll keep going. And like they say in their anthem, ?We are called Smashula because that is our name / You can't stop Smashula?. There's someting about fear in there too, but really, no fretting, this is a fun new record you'll be getting back to on a regular basis.
