KERFMUSIC is over the moon to be the online download home for many artists nominated to this year's Western Canadian Music Awards.
MCKINLEY MATTERS: Calgary-based McKinley Matters has a new wicked blues-influenced album called "The Seventh Day" very much in the vein of the singer/songwriter genre. Songs by a gentleman originally from small-town Manitoba with a strong Metis background, McKinley's solo debut is nominated in the Outstanding Aboriginal Recording category. A lovely thing. And only on KERFMUSIC.
RABNETT5: Over in the jazz camp, Vancouver via Nelson BC's Rabnett 5 have garnered another wicked notch in their musical belt with their latest album, "Leopardism". The grooves are insane on this one! They have garnered a nomination in the Outstanding Instrumental Recording category for this their latest, high fives to the band for the mean feat! Find their earlier material here on KERFMUSIC.
HUTCHINSON ANDREW TRIO: Calgary's Hutchinson Andrew Trio are also nominated to this year's list of awards for their excellent acoustic jazz trio recording done with the help of Canadian jazz legend Ralph Bowen (Horace Silver, Free Trade) on tenor saxophone, an album they titled "Music Box" released on Chronograph Records earlier in the year. Kodi Hutchinson, Chris Andrew and Sandro Dominelli are H.A.T., nomined to the Outstanding Jazz Recording award at this year's WCMAs: KERFMUSIC is where you can purchase their music.
SOULJAH FYAH: Edmonton's resident reggae crew Souljah Fyah have been bringing down the house for over a half dozen years now. Their latest album, "Truth Will Reveal" was produced by IBO and has garnered a nomination in the Outstanding Urban Recording category at this year's WCMAs; we couldn't think of a more positive vibe to be nominated to this year's awards. Add them to your collection by visiting KERFMUSIC!
DAVID J. TAYLOR: Winning the same award at last year's WCMAs, David J. Taylor is, once again, named in fine company for the Producer of the Year category. Based in Milestone Saskatchewan, David is a mainstay on the Western Canadian music scene (previously based in Vancouver and Regina) as a record producer, engineer, mixer, arranger, co-writer and session player for a plethora of artists. We have David's solo material available here on KERFMUSIC, don't be shy! Check him out.
TWILIGHT HOTEL: Clocking in for two awards, Winnipeg-based duo Twilight Hotel have been touring their songs for quite some time now, releasing their third album together earlier in 2008. "Highway Prayer" is up for Outstanding Roots Recording Album by a Duo or Group award, and the lead single from the album (a killer rockabilly number called Viva la Vinyl) is up for Best Video of the year. KERFMUSIC is tickled pink to have recently welcomed Twilight Hotel to the fold!
You'll also find some familiar names in the category of Producer of the Year for this year's Western Canadian Music Awards, folks who have worked on other recordings that can be found here on KERFMUSIC. Brandon Friesen is up for the award: he's worked with The Cranston Foundation's album "Communicate". Danny Patton also has his name in lights for this category; being no stranger either to Kerf, here is a guy who has worked on a Sheri-D Wilson album and a few of Tom Phillips recordings as well.
Congratulations to all of this year's nominees to the fabulous Western Canadian Music Awards, especially to those who have an online home here chez Kerf. They are all in extra fine company. Isn't it a good time to be loving this Western Canadian music scene? If you agree with this last statement, find your way to kerfmusic.com.
