Some FAQs

Q: Can I play your music on my Ipod?
A: YES. All music purchased on KerfMusic works on Ipods as well as on Itunes.

Q: Why do you recommend using Mozilla or Firefox? What's wrong with Internet Explorer?
A: There is nothing wrong with Internet Explorer. It's just that Mozilla and Firefox offer better performance. From my testing, pages have loaded way faster with Mozilla and Firefox. As well, KerfMusic renders best in those two browsers.

Q: Is membership free?
A: Yes.

Q: Why do I need to be a member?
A: Membership (registration) is required to keep track of the transaction. Say you lose the music you bought at KerfMusic (your brother formatted the harddrive!), you could go back to KerfMusic.com and re-download them, for free. Geeze, your brother could format your harddrive 3 times and you'll still be able to get your songs back.

Q: What about my credit card information? How secure is kerfmusic.com?
A: I take every step to make it as secure as can be. Anyone wanting to hack the website to get credit card information would be very disappointed as the information related to the transactions reveal very little credit card information, and would be totally useless. All financial transactions are handled by Moneris, which also doesn't store full credit card information. The Geotrust icon at the bottom of kerfmusic.com indicates that all information is submitted via Secure Socket Layer, and uses 256-bit encryption. The site is also tested daily for vulnerabilities with the HackerSafe security scan. I also keep abreast of the software that powers the website so that I am not exposed to any security loop holes.

Q: Cookies? Why should I accept them? Are you collecting information?
A: The cookies are simply used to "gel" the shopping cart information. If your browser is set to not accept cookies, then there is no way to "package" together the albums you want to get, and to ensure that those albums are yours. Lets apply this concept to a typical every day situation, say getting groceries. If everyone refuses, or ignores the normal rules of grocery shopping, then we'd end up in a situation where everyone would put their groceries in everyones shopping cart, and then we'd have to untangle this mess when we get to the cashiers. "No those aren't mine, they belong to that guy still shopping in aisle 14. But the person walking out of the store has my cookies!" Makes sense?

Q: How do your downloads work?
A: Basically, you download a zip file. A bunch of audio files packaged together. But to initiate the download, you will receive a "download ID" through email. You enter the download ID via the "Download Area" link on the upper right side of the website, or by clicking on the link in the email you received. This will get the download going. Depending on how you organize your music, you could save the zip file to your desktop or to the artists' directory. Unzip the file in one of those two locations, then copy/move the audio files to whatever player you use.

Q: Are the songs I listen to on your website the same quality as those I purchase? You know, those that are streamed?
A: No. The songs that are streamed on KerfMusic are of lower quality than those that you purchase. The streamed songs average under 128kbps, those for sale are encoded at a bitrate of 224kbps.

Q: When I play the songs on my mp3 player, will I see the artist name, track name, etc?
A: Yes. All tracks are tagged. You'll see the artist/band name, album name, track name, genre, year it was released as well as the composer's name. You won't see things like "track 01" or "unknown" show up on your mp3 player.

Thanks
